We are exicted to anounce Shields Sewing Center University-Sewing 101! Learn the basics of sewing and make some fun, easy projects in this 4 week course .Sewing machine will be provided.  Cost for Sewing 101 is $80 and is open for students 7th grade-adult. Sewing 101 will be held in Iowa City on August 31, September 7, September 21, and September 28, 2010 from 6pm-8:30pm.

 

Week 4-Create an easy lined tote bag! We will assemble an easy tote bag by following a basic pattern. We will learn how to cut out the tote bag,  pin the parts together, sew straight seams, add handles and lining, and top stitch. By the end of the class, you will have a completed tote bag and new sewing skills!  You will need to bring a basic sewing kit (sewing scissors, seam ripper, hem gauge, pins with heads, tape measure, water soluble marking pen, and pin cushion) , 1/2 yard outside fabric (canvas or heavy poplin), 1/2 yard contrasting lining fabric (cotton or cotton blend), 1 1/2 yds. of 1" nylon web strapping,  and Mettler sewing thread (available at Shields Sewing) to match your material.  Written instructions and heavy interfacing will be provided.
